Cancer has affected many of my family and friends, and five years ago I lost my father, Dr. Regis A. Courtemanche, to Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

So this year in honor of my Dad, for every home run the New York Mets hit, I will be donating $5 to the American Cancer Society.

I have an overall goal of raising $5,000, but I can't reach it alone! Please help me "Knock Cancer Outta Here!" (inspired by the words of Mets broadcaster Gary Cohen), and reach my goal before season's end on October 4th.

All contributions go to the ACS and will aid the fight against cancer by supporting lifesaving research, local services for cancer patients, education programs to teach healthy lifestyle behaviors, and advocacy efforts for legislation on cancer-related issues.

Even $1 will help, seriously, and you can easily click the "Make A Donation" button on the right to get started.

Thank you again for your support of this great cause!

My donation and any "matches" will be added at the end of the season.

I can be contacted at regismcourt at yahoo dot com

Thanks to everyone who attended my fundraiser on 9/23. We raised over $1,000 for ACS and had a great time doing it!

I was a student of your father's from 1975-1978, receiving a BA in History from CW Post. I was talking to my family this week about the great influence your father had on my life; how he brought history alive and made it both exciting and relevant. I decided to google him and learned just now that he passed a while back. My sympathies.
The great American thinker Russell Kirk thanked your father for reviewing his manuscript in the forward to his seminal work, The Roots of American order.
I am really saddened your dad isn't with us any longer.

Great idea...though CitiField and the injuries have not made it easy to rack up the HR and donations! Perhaps you should look into a corporate match?

What a great way to show tribute to a great man, master teacher, loving husband, proud father, and good friend. Regis had sayings that we quote to this day and a sense of humor to be admired and enjoyed. It is no wonder that you and your family are so anxious to remember him in such a special way.

Good Luck with your goal!
I am sure other Metsblog readers will help you with your goal.
I do not know anyone that has not had a family member or friend with Cancer, and we must always remember Jim Valvano ... "Don't give up, Don't ever give up!"

I like what you're doing and it's exciting to see the donations pile in.
It got me to thinking- perhaps you could get the Mets or SNY to match your donations dollar for dollar?
