I'm Austin, I'm 12 years old. I am doing this because my grandpa had stage 4 esophagus cancer but in the long run, he won and he is one of my inspirations. When I grow up I want other people to fight cancer and win so that they can spend time with their family and their grandsons and their granddaughters. If my grandpa had lost to cancer I would have never had so much fun and had so many great memoires. I spend so much time with my grandpa that if he would have lost his battle I don't know what I would have done. So now I'm raising money so that others don't have to worry about losing their grandpa or grandma. This is why I am trying to help get an answer for cancer. Cancer also took my best friends step-mom which then affected me seeing my best friend, so in a way, cancer also took my best friend away from me. Cancer took Ruth who was my neighbor and we always hung out on the weekends, her husband and her stepson always came over. Jason and I use to always play in the front yard playing wiffle ball and football with our neighbors. In March 2010 we found out Ruth had Pancreatic Cancer. May 11, 2010 It was a Tuesday, and my mom got a call from my dad. My dad asked if she could take me and my brother and that is when we found out that Ruth had passed away. The thing that hit me the most was the fact that her visitation was on 5/14/10, her funeral was 5/15/10 and my birthday was 5/16. Then about six months ago, we got more bad news, that Jason, Ruth's step-son, was moving. When I heard that news it made me feel sad because I knew that I might never be able to see my best friend again. But then as I got to thinking about it, I knew that they would be happy in their new home. It is for those reasons that I am rising money to help find a cure for cancer because it took my best-friend and his step-mom away from me and my family.
