I’m an American Cancer Society Charity Runner athlete!
This is my first year as a charity runner and my 3rd year without my father in my life. For me, participating in this race is a way to honor him and also to know that his journey meant something to me.
I am not a runner and for me to train and run 13.1 miles is something I feel would be inspriring to conquer after seeing my father fight for his life to cancer. My father may have lost his battle to this disease but to me he will always be someone who won in my heart. His positive attitutide, perserverance and courage is what will get me through my life challenges, my future decisions and the finish line on January 17th 2010 PF Changs Half Marathon.
I will remember the amazing memories I have shared with my father during training and race day. When I wonder how I will make another mile I will remember the times he encouraged me to never give up, the times he laughed at me and with me and the times he pushed me to be the bigger person. I will remember the times when I told him a goal of mine he would say " ALRIGHT" with his thumbs up and say "You will do it"
I have dedicated my training and race efforts to also support the American Cancer Society.
Like endurance race aspirations, the American Cancer Society is also attacking difficult goals, including preventing cancer and diminishing suffering from the disease.Like me, the Society is putting in a great deal of effort to make these difficult goals possible and to save more lives. I am going to meet my goal of finishing this race to help them meet their goal to end cancer.
Fighting cancer will make every mile more meaningful.
Please support me.
In addition to the finishing the race, I am striving to raise money in support of the American Cancer Society. I know that many of you already give to several organizations, maybe even the fight against cancer, so please know that any contribution would be greatly appreciated. Every dollar truly makes a difference. Donating online is easy, and you can donate now.
Please help me honor my father Cruz T. Martinez who lost his batle of cancer, and also honor the people who have been touched by cancer, and to bring hope to those currently facing the disease.
Warmest Regards,
Jessica Martinez
