I’m an American Cancer Society Charity Runner athlete!

I made it through my first year of "first's" without my dad since loosing him to cancer in July of 08...My first birthday(30) without my dad wishing me "Have a great day " on such a milestone marker of my life. My first holidays especially without hearing him say "Merry Christmas Kiddo". My first would have been Dads 65th birthday and not having someone I love to wish "Happy Birthday". And my first one year anniversary of his passing.

But I'm back from a long first year and I'm ready for year 2! Watch out world because here I come bigger and better and ready to Rock N Roll raising money for a cure!

Initially for me, participating in this race last year was a way to prove to myself that (a) I could do something so enduring after seeing my father fight the fight of his life to cancer and lost and (b) to memorialize my dad, my uncle, and my cousin who all died within 37 days of each other from cancer.

Last year, the race was strictly a personal goal and desire to run in an event that would be challenging yet theraputic- getting me through my first year without my father healthily and productively. I knew then that running would aid in the greif one feels after loosing a loved one. But this year I'm over the hardships and focused on dedicating my training and race efforts to support the American Cancer Society. Fighting cancer for others so they do not have to endure the loss of a loved one makes every mile more meaningful.

Like endurance race aspirations, the American Cancer Society is also attacking difficult goals, including preventing cancer and diminishing suffering from the disease.Like me, the Society is putting in a great deal of effort to make these difficult goals possible and to save more lives. I am not only going to meet my goal of finishing this race to help them meet their goal to end cancer, but I have also placed into effect several personal fundraising efforts that raise money for this organization.

In addition to the finishing the race, I am striving to raise money in support of the American Cancer Society through the Extinguish Cancer Event www.extinguishcancer.com.

Please help me remember my dad who lost his battle with cancer,and to also honor the people who have been touched by cancer, as well as to bring hope to those currently facing the disease.
