Together, we can save lives from cancer!

In the past, I've done plenty of charity walks and runs mostly to prove to myself that I can finish and reach my own personal physical goal.  "Pedal to End Cancer" is a very different charity for me – in fact, it is a “cause”, and it is extremely personal.  About 4 years ago, my dad was diagnosed with curable prostate cancer.  Over the next year, his condition worsened ultimately leading to advanced stomach cancer and requiring a significant surgery.  With this diagnosis, my husband and I decided to have my dad move in with our family so we could assist in his care.  This was a very complicated decision, considering our children and the lifestyle changes we would all have to make, but my dad needed us, and we had the ability and desire to help – A decision we would make again today -- At the time, we believed my dad was essentially cancer free and that while difficult and lengthy, a full recovery could be in his future.  As expected, his recovery was slow and was complicated by his age, but my dad is a fighter and he believed this wasn’t his time.  Unfortunately, this past September we learned the cancer had returned and while manageable, this time is not curable.

Today, at the age of 80, my dad continues to fight.  He spends his days quietly enjoying his time with his family and especially his grandchildren.  He has good days and bad days, but for the first time we have had to face that those days are numbered.

When I heard that Bodyscapes Fitness in Southborough was hosting the "Pedal to End Cancer" event, I didn't give it a second thought.  I am lucky enough to pedal "in honor of" my dad and not "in memory of" my dad.   When I told my dad about this, he was so proud and continues to ask me about my fundraising goal.  It’s events like this that remind me that I have no regrets about the time we spent and have left together.  I still get the opportunity to tell him I love him every day.  Hopefully the money raised will allow others to do the same

Your donation can make a difference - no amount is too small..

This year, nearly 1.5 million people will hear the words "You have cancer," and there's a good chance that some of them will be people we know and love. I have chosen to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays – where cancer never steals another year from anybody’s life – by helping the American Cancer Society’s work. With our help, the American Cancer Society saves lives and creates more birthdays by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back.

For nearly a century, the American Cancer Society has fought for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. Will you join me? I hope you will support me in my effort to reach my goal by using the links above.
