Hope Lodge

The American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge at Quality Hill remains the only free, temporary housing facility in the KC area for patients battling cancer. The financial and emotional toll of medical bills, loss of income, hotel accommodations and dining out add up when patients spend days, weeks, even months away from home. The Hope Lodge has served more than 5,000 individuals and their caregivers since its doors opened in 2000 and has provided a safe, home base for patients undergoing cancer treatments.

Getting the right care sometimes means cancer patients must travel away from home for treatment.  This places an added emotional and financial burden during an already challenging time.

The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge of Kansas City, a free, 24-hour, temporary residential facility, offers a home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers while receiving outpatient treatment.  The Hope Lodge has served more than 5,000 individuals and their caregivers since its doors opened in 2000.

By eliminating many emotional and financial concerns, Hope Lodge is able to reduce disparities in cancer care and improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families.

The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge of Kansas City never closes.  Residents receive information, have the opportunity to participate in social enrichment activities, and may attend educational programs.

Hope Lodge ensures patients do not have to go without the most effective treatment, simply because they can’t afford to travel.

Hope Lodge amenities include 45 suites furnished with two twin beds, a bathroom, and a phone with voice mail, four kitchenettes with complete amenities for guests to create group meals or cook individually, free laundry facilities on each floor, Movie Theater featuring a big-screen television, transportation for grocery shopping, Look Good…Feel Better room for help with appearance-related side effects, Mickey Mouse inspired suite just for kids, comfortable lounges, and Internet access to stay in touch with loved ones.

Together with Hope Lodge of Kansas City staff and volunteers, the residents will form a bond through their common determination to overcome cancer.
