Join my efforts to Go Bald in support of the Hope Lodge and help us support the fight against cancer!

I am an employee of the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge in Kansas City. Hope Lodge is a home away from home for out of town cancer patients receiving treatment in the Kansas City area. Some of the patients stay for a day or two. Some stay with us through a 100 day bone marrow transplant process, others are here for up to a year. Imagine the expense of having to rent a hotel room and eat out for 100 days! Hope Lodge provides a safe environment for patients and their families to fight cancer without added financial stress.

Everyone stays at Hope Lodge for free.

Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer. I come in contact with someone everyday. I feel like everyone who walks through the door at Hope Lodge, patients and their families, are my family. Their lows are my lows, and their highs are my highs. I celebrate the successful completion of a round of chemotherapy with them. I mourn with them when treatment can’t overcome the cancer. I share courage and hope with those who must keep battling.

Shave to Save is one of the American Cancer Society’s most exciting and unique fundraising events and the only event that directly benefits the Hope Lodge of Kansas City. This is an event where men and women volunteer to shave their heads in honor or memory of someone that has been touched by cancer. I am a “Shavee” this year, which means my goal is to raise $5,000 so I can have my head shaved and show my solidarity for my family at the Hope Lodge. The Lodge’s support comes from people in the community just like you. It costs $ 1000.00 per day to keep the Hope Lodge doors open and Shave to Save helps get us there. If I meet my $5,000 goal, I will have my hair shaved on May 5, 2009.
