CLIMB TO CONQUER CANCER:  2nd Sunday in October, Manastash Ridge near Ellensburg WA

RIDGE RACE ~ For firefighters, runners, soldiers, warriors, gym buffs, and all other competitors ages14-94

For those warrior athletes among us, we offer the Ridge Race, which starts Climb to Conquer Cancer the 2nd Sunday in October every year.   Competitors race 2.3 miles uphill, over uneven terrain, with a 1,700' elevation gain. In order to separate racers and lessen impact on steep slopes, racers leave in heats, heading up a dirt road through a canyon, before ascending the hillside which connects to the main trail. Much of the trail is wide and well traversed, offering many opportunities to pass, but there are places the trail is only 18” wide. The trail levels somewhat before an intense climb over sage-covered, rocky slopes.

You may compete individually or on a 3-person team. If you're a firefighter, gym member, running club member, etc., team bragging rights can be pretty significant!  You can simply race the clock to improve your personal record, or you can challenge the best firefighters in the state of Washington. Our local heroes are in phenomenal shape and, as last year's team winners, I'll bet you a bottle of sparkling cider they can beat your crew to the top! Bring it on!!!

All individual times will be posted on the website after the race, even if you compete as part of a team.  The term "Team" takes on a whole new meaning for the Ridge Race. You can be part of a huge "Team" for Climb to Conquer Cancer and proudly wear your special team shirt, yet still have a 3-person "race team" for this event.  Make sure to tell the race committee the names of your race teammates when you check in at the event.  The rest of your friends can just meet you at the top.

If you choose to compete on a 3- person race team, time is the combined average of all members’ finish times (going up only) and your team age group is based on the age of your youngest member. Your individual time will still be listed on the web site.

Just indicate “Ridge Racer” when registering online (then again at check-in the day of the event) and you will leave in timed intervals after opening ceremonies. Male and female divisions start at age 19 and under; then 20-29, 30-39, etc. Times will be posted on this web site, in this location, after the race.
