Welcome to Luke & Laura's Page
Last year was my first time participating in American Cancer Society’s Dogswalk Against Cancer. This event raises money and awareness to fight human and animal cancers. My plan was to walk in memory of my Aunt Shirley. My Mom passed away on April 23, 2008; just two weeks before the walk. I really didn't want to go; the weekend before was Mommy’s funeral and the weekend after the walk was her memorial. I woke up the morning of the event and it was cold and rainy and the weather matched my mood. I looked at Luke and decided that maybe we should get out of the house. We got in the car and I drove in silence to Bear Mountain. Once we arrived I was glad to be at the event. Without having to say a word, I found strength in walking with survivors and their loved ones. Walking with Luke I couldn’t help but smile at his perpetually wagging tail. That day I walked and he wagged for Mommy, Aunt Shirley and everyone else I know whose lives have been impacted by cancer. On May 3, Luke and I are walking and wagging again, but we are not alone. I formed a team called “Cavaliers Wagging for a Cure.” A group of my friends with their Cavaliers and honorary Cavaliers are joining me. I’m sponsoring a picnic after the walk for the team. I’m hoping that you can spare a donation to support the American Cancer Society. I promise that this will be the only event I will ask you to support this year. Last spring I raised $1200 and I was one of the top fundraisers. I’m hoping to do better this year.
Thank you in advance for your support!
