Why am I up for the challenge? I’m pleased and honored to see another year roll around again which only means another opportunity to get some runs in and to support Cancer research efforts. It’s been an unsettling year with the economic crisis infiltrating its way into all of our lives. It’s almost like being diagnosed with cancer. “What did I do wrong to make this come about?” I’m asking that if you can find a way to help with the fundraising that you make the effort. The genome map is complete, and research is developing along Nano technology to look at the difference between healthy DNA and cancerous DNA in a patient. This will ONE DAY allow specific treatment for the actual way the genes mutated into cancerous cells. This is a remarkable find, that without further research is useless. That’s where we need the help. On a personal note, Robin and I have each dropped a bunch of weight and attend weekly yoga sessions. It kicks our collective butts, but each week we are better for it. Last ski season I ended the year ~ 9,000 Ft short of a quarter of a million vertical feet. I accidentally got invited to the NASTAR ski racing nationals – who knew? I didn’t think I skied competitively. A short while ago I received a call from my Dad that informed me that Chris Connors, a friend who also went through the transplant process (both Autalogus and Allogenaic) passed away. Out of a group of three highschool acquaintances diagnosed at the same time, I’m the only one who is still enjoying life after the transplant. That is far too small of a group. Please help so others can be as fortunate. I eliminate myself from any prize consideration. Thanks & please tell someone else of this event, Dave & Robin Born
