On Sunday June 14th 

I will be running a 5K race 

across the George Washington 

Bridge to benefit The American 

Cancer Society. 

I'm running as part of a team of friends from ARC Athletics in New York City.

I support this program sincerely as cancer has touched me personally, like so many people, and way too often. As many of you know my mother Christine was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2007 after successfully beating breast cancer in 2000. This time around, I'm happy to report that again she manages to defy the odds and displays remarkable pluck as she goes about her day to day activities.

Last month my dear friend Tracy discovered she had ovarian cancer, and in late May underwent ovarian cancer surgery — as of this update, her prognosis is encouraging. The news was not so good for my younger cousin Jamie — sadly in early 2008 he passed away from a brain tumor just a few short months after his initial diagnosis. 

I am determined to help in the fight to eliminate this pervasive disease and am asking friends like you to help with a sponsoring donation for my upcoming 5K run.

Your donation will support the American Cancer Society's efforts to fund groundbreaking cancer research, provide up-to-date cancer information and education, advocate for public health policies that benefit the community, and offer free services that improve the quality of life for patients and their families. I'm sure the success my mother had beating breast cancer in 2000 and the hearty life she still lives even with esophageal cancer have been in no small part to the great advances realized in cancer research, funded in part by charitable organizations like The American Cancer Society.
