Run For Dad Mercer County Park Sunday, June 21, 2009, Registration: 7:30 am
Together we've raised !
It’s Father’s Day, 2009 and you’re looking for a fun, healthy experience for you, your dad and your family. Well, we’ve got the answer. Join us on Sunday, June 21, 2009, in beautiful Mercer County Park in New Jersey, as we raise awareness about prostate cancer and money to support prostate cancer research projects and prostate cancer screenings for men..
Our event includes something for everyone; a 5K run, a 2 mile walk and the Kids Run For Dad. So bring the whole family. We have a Kids Zone with a face painter, a clown who does many fun things such as balloon animals, as well as small craft projects and other fun activities. We start early and end early so you’ll be home in time to take Dad to brunch or have that family BBQ. Over 1000 joined us in 2008. Why don't you join us this year?
Why is this important?
Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer found in American men, other than skin cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be about 186,320 new cases of prostate cancer in the United States in 2008. About 28,660 men will die of this disease this year. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men. Lung cancer is the first. One man in 6 will get prostate cancer during his lifetime, and 1 man in 35 will die of this disease. More than 2 million men in the United States who have had prostate cancer at some point are still alive today. The death rate for prostate cancer is going down, and the disease is being found earlier as well due to education activities and screenings such as those supported by RUN FOR DAD.
The seventh annual RUN FOR DAD is a community and family event of the American Cancer Society designed to raise awareness about prostate cancer in men and to highlight the importance of screening and early detection. A small group of prostate cancer survivors, concerned health care professionals and other community and corporate activists manage the event. All proceeds go to support prostate cancer research projects, prostate cancer screenings and other prostate cancer awareness activities.
