Recapping the 27th Annual Chili Cook-off:

The 27th Annual American Cancer Society Chili Cook-Off, sponsored by Trax Tires, took place on March 5, 2016 at the Grounds.  The weather could not have been better!  It was a beautiful day and thousands flocked to the Grounds to enjoy the weather and lots of chili.  We had a very successful event and raised over $150,000 for the American Cancer Society and its fight to end cancer.

The crowd of over 15,000 got their fill of chili that day with 72 teams participating in the cook-off. Whether they were cooking all meat chili, meat and beans, vegetarian/poultry or wild game, these teams had obviously been practicing to perfect their chili recipes for this year’s cook-off. There were so many delicious and flavorful chilis to taste! Each year our judges have the unenviable task of determining the top chili in each category as well as an overall winner.  This year, the judges overall choice was White-Spunner Construction.  Congratulations to White-Spunner Construction for taking bragging rights in 2016!

With so much going on throughout the day- it is hard for everyone to see it all.   This year’s event again featured a children’s area and was a hit among the young chili tasters. Children were entertained all day with face painting, jumping in the moonwalk and watching the famous remote control car races. The crowd was treated to live entertainment by the Faulkner State Sun Chiefs, Peek and new this year, Stereo Dogs. Everyone enjoyed the bands and the energy they brought to the event.  Thank you to all our bands!  Attendees also got to enjoy emceeing from our home town media personalities: 95KSJ’s Dan Brennan and Shelby Mitchell as well as Kelly Foster and Jake Dunne from Local 15 News.

There is so much preparation that goes into putting on an event like Chili Cook-Off.  It takes months of hard work from a number of very dedicated and self-less individuals and this year was no exception.  The American Cancer Society wants to thank the 2016 Chili Cook-Off committee who devoted so much time and energy to ensuring this event was a success.

The American Cancer Society would also like to thank all of the generous sponsors who chose the Chili Cook-off as an event worthy of their donation.  It goes without saying that our event would not be anything without all of the teams who participate each year. Lastly, the American Cancer Society would like to thank the community for embracing this event each year.  Our sincerest appreciation goes out to everyone for helping the American Cancer Society continue our mission.  Our mission is simple.  Save lives and celebrate life. Every single day.
