About Coaches
Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. The program leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of basketball coaches to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.
Because cancer has touched so many of our nation’s basketball coaches, Coaches vs. Cancer offers them a unique opportunity to fight the disease. Through integrated fundraising activities and public awareness campaigns, participating coaches are truly making a difference in the fight against cancer and are raising awareness in their communities about the importance of cancer prevention, early detection, and making healthy lifestyle choices.

Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness Weekend During one weekend in February each year, basketball coaches raise awareness to help fight cancer by wearing sneakers with their game attire and having their coaching staff do the same. By lacing up your sneakers, you can raise awareness about the fight against cancer, share the importance of nutrition and physical activity in reducing one’s risk of the disease, and promote the American Cancer Society as a place for people facing cancer to turn 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for free information, help, and support. This is a great opportunity to rally the community and demonstrate your commitment to fighting cancer. |
