Each year the Relay For Life Committee selects an individual to be the Honorary Survivor.  This year we are pleased to announce that Gabriella Quintero has been selected and will lead our opening lap.

Gabriella Quintero is an eight year old little angel who attends Liberty Pines Academy.  Gabriella was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma a year and five months ago.  Gabriella’s mother, Jill, remembers how brave and strong her little girl was throughout the very difficult times.  She is constantly amazed at how positive and happy her spirit has been from day one.  Jill says, “For all this small child has been through, she never complains!!  Its incredible how my 8 year old daughter is teaching me lessons in life!!”

Gabriella has been cancer free for over a year now and has only 8 more chemo treatments left to go before completing her two year treatment plan.

Throughout this long journey Gabriella has been surrounded by amazing family and friends.  She has received so much support from the community and has met so many wonderful people during the past year that have cherished and inspired her.

Gabriella is so proud to raise money and be a part of Relay For Life because she wants all children with cancer to be given the opportunity to “KICK CANCERS BUTT”.

Please join the Relay For Life Committee in welcoming Gabriella as our 2009 Honorary Survivor.  Visit Gabriella's web page on her team page of "Kick Cancers Butt".  Gabriella has already raised over $2,300 and has reached the distinguished level of Star Supporter.

Fundraising Opportunity for YOUR Team

Most of the Relay for Life participants are well aware of the impacts of cancer, either from experiencing it themselves or seeing a friend or family member go through it.  Besides the health and emotional impacts, there can be a significant financial impact - even if you have health insurance.   Co-pays for doctor visits and prescriptions add up, alternative therapies may not be covered by health insurance, and there are travel and lodging expenses when going out of town for second opinions or specialized treatments. Not to mention the loss of pay for time out of work.

Did you know that you can purchase Cancer Insurance to help cover these expenses?  Cancer Insurance pays you, not the doctors. There is an upfront payment when you are diagnosed, and then payments according to the treatments or care that is required. For example, you could receive $125/day for private nursing, $200/day for each day of radiation or chemo treatment, and airfare for treatments or consultations out of town).   In addition, $50 - $100 per person for cancer screening tests are covered each year.

A friend of mine was diagnosed with skin cancer on her face and her cancer policy paid her $3000.  She was able to use this money to pay for cosmetic surgery (for the scars from the surgery) and expensive healing creams not covered by health insurance.

Cancer insurance can be as inexpensive as $17/ month for an individual, $29 / month for the whole family.  Benefits are paid directly to you and are in addition to any other coverage you may have.  The policy is guaranteed renewable for life.

My husband, Cris Warner, is an Allstate agent, and Allstate provides Cancer Insurance.   We believe this product is one that can make a difference in the life of someone dealing with all the residual impacts of cancer. To support Relay for Life, Cris will donate the commissions from any cancer policies sold to Relay for Life participants - directly to the participants Relay for Life Team.

If you are interested in learning more, please contact me, Leslie Warner, at 230-9485 or Cris Warner at 783-0668 or 962-5566.
