The American Cancer Society Relay for Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.
Survivors are honored at Relay for Life
Two major events occur at the Relay each year for the Survivors of Cancer.
The first is a reception, sponsored by Civista Health a major sponsor of the Relay for Life of Charles County. For the past 12 years Civista Health has sponsored the Survivor's Reception as a way for us to honor our community members who have and continue to fight cancer. To register for the Reception please call 1-888-332-4847 to register or access registration through www.civista.org.
The Second and one of the high points of the Relay is the Honor Roll Call of Survivors where individual Survivors are presented to the Relay by their years of survival of cancer. The walking track is cleared so that the Survivors can take a lap of the field and be honored by all in attendence. Seeing the survivors walk who were diagnosed as many as 30 years ago is very inspirational for those diagnosed weeks ago. The Survivors Lap is very moving part for all, Survivors and participants of the Relay.
To register for the Relay for Life of Charles County and receive your Relay T-shirt, you may simply register as a survivor online at www.relayforlife.org/charlesco. The Relay for Life registration also provides data to allow the American Cancer Society to target and provide the many free programs and services for Survivors throughout the year as well as cancer education and life changing updates.
Between September 1, 2008 and August 31, 2009, Relay For Life® communities nationwide are hosting special “Show Us Your HOPE” activities that visually depict the passion Relayers have for the fight against cancer. Ideally, these activities are separate from Relay For Life® events and demonstrate how the American Cancer Society in our community celebrates survivors, remembers loved ones lost and fights back against cancer through Relay For Life®.
