19 years ago the doctors mentioned the "C" word. I had heard the word before, but never had I imagined it would be in MY body. It was the slowest growing type, so there was a good chance that it hadn't spread throughout my body. I had just had a C-section with my second child and a couple months later go back into surgery to remove cells that had multiplied. Tests showed the tumor was cancerous, and it had spread within the thyroid, so chemo was on the agenda. I remember wanting to hold my newborn baby, but so scared that any bodily fluid (sweat) might touch the baby. I was advised not to exchange any bodily fluid and flush the toilet twice. I was told I wouldn't get sick, but I did. I remember feeling like my insides were being turned inside out, and thinking being dead would be better. That was 19 years ago, the American Cancer Society has helped in research to improve treatments. Your donations do make a difference!
